- Preheat pot over MED-HI heat.
- Add all ingredients except for tabasco/hot sauce.
- Bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer, cover, & cook 30 mins.
- Add tabasco or hot sauce right before serving.
TIP: This is also great fixed in a small crockpot. Toss everything in and put it on while you're out and come back to great tasting dinner! If using the crockpot, you can use cut up uncooked chicken (even frozen!). Feel free to add your allowed vegetable to this as well - I usually add chopped onion.

Ok, this was to DIE for! Thank you so much for this recipe! This is a KEEPER! I made it with celery and it tasted like my nieces TORTILLA SOUP! OMG! I was loving life for lunch! I never thought about cloves! My mom uses cloves in EVERYTHING, but especially in soups and stews! DUH! Thanks for this recipe Renee!
I was a bit sceptical, but this soup is really really good. Actually, outstanding! Great recipe!
This is a great recipe. Tasted delicious!!
I thought it was fantastic, but my husband said next time consider leaving out the cloves (I put in organic whole cloves, they were pretty strong). Otherwise, this recipe provides a base to really experiment with. Thanks for providing!
Really good! I added spinach to bulk it up. Celery is good too!
really good! I added spinach for bulk. Celery is good too! very satisfying.
This was really yummy! I made enough for 4 servings and used one for a lunch and dumped it on top of a salad...it was wonderful! I didn't have the clove to use so I subbed a bit of cinnamon and a bit of ginger to give it a kick. Thanks for the recipe! This site is so helpful.
Yum! Just printed this out and can't wait to try it tomorrow! Thanks!
Absolutely delicious! A little spicy for me, but my husband loved it! Thanks Renee!
I was very skeptical, especially when it didn't smell very good cooking. BUT, omg! It was amazing! Thank you SO much for sharing this recipe !!
