Seasonings (to taste):
- Preheat pan over MED heat.
- Add minced garlic and 1 T of the water/broth to pan.
- Saute 2-3 mins. Be sure not to burn the garlic. Add more water/broth as necessary.
- Increase heat to MED-HI.
- Add ground steak and saute until brown - about 5 mins.
- Add all seasonings and cook an additional 3 mins. Continue to add more water/broth as necessary.
- While that is cooking dice 1/2 of tomato and place other 1/2 in food processor or blender to puree.
- Mix in tomatoes, puree, and rest of broth.
- Turn heat down to MED-LO and simmer until it reaches desired consistency.
TIP: I usually mix all my spices together in a small bowl so I can add them all at once.
This can be prepared in advance and frozen. I'll make up batches of this and freeze into individual portions. Then I take it out the night before I'm ready to serve. The kids love taking this for school lunches as well.

I have to say, this is the most satisfying meal I have had thus far on VLCD. It was just the right amount of spice and I like it spicy!! The only thing different I did was added chili powder. I will definitely have this again! Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you for doing this for us fellow dieters! I really lack creativity. This is definitely one of my fave recipes! :) I used canned tomatoes to make it faster and left out some spices adding others and hot sauce, but I wouldn't have even thought of it without you! Very satisfying!

Hey! Just wanted to say that I was unsure of why I couldn't make my own chili while on the HCG diet. I was heartbroken (chili is one of my favorite dishes) and I didn't understand why diced tomatoes and tomato puree wasn't good while I could still have tomatoes.
This clarified things a LOT! Thank you so very much! I make a recipe off Cook's Illustrated that uses more spices and other things, but this is perfect!
Made this tonight. Was a little worried I might not like it, but I loved it! After I finish the 23 days I could see myself making this again and adding a little chesse and eating it with crackers. Yummy! Thank you so much for sharing, I was getting tired of grilled chicken everyday.
